Empty Calories Explained

Empty calories are foods that don’t particularly provide any nutritional value, though they do fill you up. In your local market, you will find a plethora of examples there, all it takes is reading the labels to figure out what these things are.

We think is a practice that everyone should get into, as we should always want to know what goes into our body, not just those people who are looking to lose weight. Essentially, all solid fats that remain so at room temperature usually constitute it. Also, you’ll find that added sugars to be empty calories, as well. Both of these things can be hard to keep down, but completely doable should you want to.

What Are Empty Calories in Foods?

Wow. There are many examples of empty calories, and unfortunately, there happens to be a lot in some of our favorite foods. We’re not saying that you should give them up altogether, but we do think that there are plenty of them that you should be eating less of if you want to be truly healthy.

We have found that packaged cakes, donuts, and cookies to be big culprits. Essentially all fast foods are poster childs of empty calories, as well as ice cream and full-fat diary to be full of empty calories. Lastly, meats such as hot dogs, bacon, ribs, and sausage contain solid fat, which definitely answer the question of what are empty calories.

As earlier stated, many of your favorite foods will contain empty calories. It should be said that these shouldn’t be avoided at all costs, but they should be heavily monitored. If you can, please try your best to find alternatives to those foods, and you shouldn’t have much of a problem doing that.
