Now it is a very typical personality trait of us women to want to put everyone else's needs before our own and to take on everything that comes our way.
For some of us, we can take stock of our jobs and responsibilities and either re-delegate them or even scrap them altogether (who else has a really bad habit of creating things for themselves to do because they just cannot sit and do nothing?!).
For the rest of us, we just simply don't have the option of re-delegating. We are mothers, professionals, home-keepers, wives, girlfriends, business owners, friends, daughters and the list can go on....
So what do we do when we have taken it all on, but are starting to flail in our motivation to get anything done at all, including looking after our own health? Self care is so important in situations such as this where we can feel a bit over-whelmed and like our motivation is dwindling.
Read my top tips for creating and maintaining your motivation when life gets a bit too hectic!
1. Keep your goal at the forefront of your mind, always 🎯
We create our own motivation, it is not something we are naturally born with. Although, some people find it easier than others to maintain a level of focus on what they want from life, it isn't as easy for others and so having a goal to work towards, and constantly reminding yourself of this will really help you.
2. Rise and grind! 🌅
Get up and work out before your brain has even had a chance to realize what you are doing! I always find that if I work out in the morning, that I am more likely to make better choices with my nutrition throughout the rest of the day.
3. Celebrate the small successes 🏆
Don't fail to neglect the small victories in your busy schedule. You weren't able to work out today, but you parked your car further away from your office building so you got more steps in? Well done 👏🏾
4. Speak kindly to yourself 🗣
We are not super human, although we sometimes like to think that we are. So try to catch yourself when the negative self-talk creeps in. Praise yourself for trying your best and continuing to work to the best of your ability in remaining focused on your vision.
5. Motivational quotes 💪🏽
Having 5 solid motivational quotes as your go-to whenever you need a bit of sass re-injected into your motivation can be a really powerful tool. I keep a folder in my phone of motivational quotes I like when I am scrolling on my phone and have some pinned around my office during my work day.
6. Routine 📆
Never underestimate the power of a slid routine. You might be busy, but if you can organize everything you need to do into a daily routine schedule then you are onto a winner. This will help you to form healthy, positive habits which will grow your motivation, even when your days are at their busiest.
7. Seek out the positives ✅
There is always something good in every day. Find the positives in every situation even though it might feel like it has been sent to test you. Late for work because your children didn't want to go to school? Be thankful that you have a job to be late for. Be thankful you have children who would rather spend time with you than go to school.
8. Take regular breaks ☕
Again, we are not super human. Taking regular breaks throughout your day to have a coffee or go for a 5 minute walk around the car park at work to re-focus your mind so you can continue with your productive day.
9. Be productive, not busy ⏳
As the saying goes - are you being productive, or busy? You might have lots to do, but are you actually taking meaningful steps to get things done, or are you procrastinating and time wasting?
10. Prioritize 📉
Everything doesn't have to be done at once. Read that again.
What is important? What needs to be done as a priority? What can wait and the world won't end because of it?
I hope these top tips help you in trying to manage your busy lives. I can totally empathize with you and all it takes it a bit of organisation and realness about what is achievable in any given day.
