We all love a bargain, especially when it comes to our weekly food shop!
There's nothing better than filling your cupboards, fridge and freezer full of scrummy, nutritious delights for a reasonable cost each week 💵
But how do you keep the costs down, and still manage to follow a healthy, nutritionally balanced diet? I hear you ask!
To help you navigate your weekly shop for less, and not compromise on the quality of the meals you are eating, follow my top tips...!
1. Meal Plan 🗒
Planning your meals for the week and basing it around the foods you already have in your cupboards will help you to save purchasing unnecessary foods which might get wasted or not used in that particular week.
Make a list of all the foods you already have in your cupboards, fridge and freezer; and seek out recipes from our Eatwell recipe bank which include them, or cook something that follows the Results with Lucy principle of an 80/20 approach to living.
Once you have noted what you already have, and chosen your recipes for the week, make your shopping list based around this!
2. Beware of the Superfoods Trap 🥑

Whilst these are all sources of excellent nutrition for us; there are many brands now available, trying to up-sell the very same products we can buy readily in our supermarkets for a lot less cost. Eating healthily and fueling ourselves with the correct food does not have to be expensive.
3. Cook in Bulk 🥘
When planning lunches and evening meals, try to cook something in the evening which can be reheated the next day, or eaten cold, for lunch! This saves on purchasing lots of different ingredients when you can simply cook enough for extras of your evening meal to have the next day (sometimes you can even stretch to a couple of lunches extra from one meal!)

4. Freezer Favourites ❄
Spending a couple of hours on a Sunday batch cooking some freezer favourites can save you so much time in the week if you know you will be busy and don't have time to cook on an evening. It also means that you can save money on purchasing smaller amounts of the same ingredients (which can often work out to be more expensive) every time you want to have that particular meal:

5. Savings on Soups 🍵
Soups are such a great way of making a cheap and nutritious meal, without spending a fortune. If you have any vegetables left over at the end of the week whack them in your slow cooker with a stock cube and some boiling water and make yourself a batch of vegetable soup to fill your freezer or have for lunches during your week.

6. Frozen for Freshness 🥦
Fed up of wasting fresh foods each week? Frozen vegetables are a thrifty alternative to buying fresh without compromising on nutritional quality.
Alternatively, if you have an peppers, onions, sweet potatoes or swede left at the end of the week... chop your onions and peppers and put in freezer bags, and steam and mash your swede and sweet potatoes, divide into a 12 hole cupcake tin and freeze. Once frozen, pop out the moulds into freezer bags and return to the freezer to give you quick meal prep vegetables for meals in the week!
