For a lot of women who join one of our Results with Lucy memberships, it is because they are wanting to make physical changes to their body, whether that be toning or fat loss. What also becomes apparent is that they are wanting to make a change because they are not happy with themselves in the ‘now’. Well I’m here to tell you why accepting your body in the ‘now’ can provide you with huge benefits for your long-term health and fitness efforts 🎉

When making the decision to take up a new healthy way of living, often it is because we are feeling unhappy with one particular or multiple aspects of our life. It could be due to health problems; the way you think you look or the impact on your social life and confidence 💔

Generally, for those wanting to lose weight (fat loss), their confidence will grow as they see the number on the scales go down. But who wants to live their life, with their mood and confidence dictated by the number on the scales? In fact, this could end up having a detrimental affect on your fitness efforts as not seeing immediate changes may lead you down a spiral of self-sabotage and unhealthy behaviours. Your worth is not subject to how much you weigh or whether you are toned. 

You are so much more than that ✨

Here are some suggestions and advice to help transform the way that you view yourself in the ‘now’ to boost that body confidence and help you to maintain a healthy and fit lifestyle…

 

💕 Speak kindly to yourself, self-criticism is not welcome here! 

The person we spend the most time conversing with is… you’ve got it! OURSELVES! How many times a day are you talking to yourself in your own mind? What sort of conversations are you having with yourself? If you feel that being hard and constantly telling yourself about the negatives you feel is going to make you push to improve, think again. Change up the way you speak to yourself! Rather than focus on the bit of a workout you struggled with, focus on the bit that you absolutely smashed! Rather than constantly telling yourself how much you hate your legs, tell yourself how much you love your arms or your jaw line! Out with the negative, in with the positive ladies! 

Body confidence is not about arrogance or convincing yourself that you look amazing if you do not feel it. It’s about accepting yourself right here, right now. Make a promise that you will opt to accept that we all come in different shapes and sizes and, that above all else; your happiness and health is the most important part of this fitness journey that you are on. 

 

🕊 Make peace with your past 

I have not met one person who does not wish that they could hit the ‘rewind’ button and go back to a time or event and make a change. Often in the hope that it would have a gigantic effect on their current future. Hindsight is a beautiful thing when we are reviewing things which could have been approached differently. Hindsight however will never change the past so stop dwelling. Focus on your present. Learn from your past choices and accept yourself in the ‘now’. When you truly do this, the compassion you feel towards yourself will begin to flow much more easily and so you will naturally be drawn to wanting to make your health a priority. This in turn will start providing you with the physical changes you are wanting to see. 

Reflecting on the past is never a bad thing, it helps us to learn and grow our futures. Obsessing over the negatives in our past however, is not healthy for our self-esteem and progress. Don’t wait to see changes before you give yourself permission to feel good about yourself. Give yourself permission to feel love towards yourself now, and the rest will follow.

Choose yourself a new monthly mantra to focus on. Say it to yourself whenever you feel you need that boost of self-acceptance and self-love. 

 

Walk That Talk 🚶‍♀

Check in with how you carry yourself when walking out in public or in your own home! Shoulders back and head held high! As the saying goes ‘Fake it ‘til you make it!’ and make yourself feel confident by carrying yourself in a confident way.
