My name is Gem and I am a Results with Lucy member 💁🏽
As I sit here writing this blog, I find myself thinking back to the very beginning where I became part of an online community. How this one decision to sign up to an online fitness platform would change my whole mind set and outlook on life. 🌎
Never in my wildest dreams did I believe that I, little ol’, relatively unfit and lacking in self-esteem Gem from sleepy Cornwall, would be invited to become an ambassador for one of the most up and coming fitness forums in not just the United Kingdom, but the World. With members reaching as far as the United States, Results with Lucy have embraced the all-too-often negative world of social media and created a network of support, friendships and comradery like never before. 💻
I was first drawn to RWL through following some of the Snapchat takeover stories of old. I have never been a girlie girl. I have never fit any sort of conventional mould and due to my own pre-conceptions about avid fitness enthusiasts alike, I did not feel that I could ever successfully involve myself in the community on offer. How wrong was I?! While watching these takeovers week after week, I began to realise that most of the girls using RWL as a tool to better themselves, did not fit any particular mould either. 🙅🏽
There is one story that I will quite literally remember forever, and not because the host was ‘#goals’ but because she was just like me. Granted much taller, fitter and presented herself in a much different style to me, but because her persona and the way in which she was living her life really resonated. That was the start of something immensely positive for me.
After a huge heart-pouring to my partner and a promise to not only her, but most importantly, myself that I needed to make a positive change in my health and mind set, I signed up to the New Beginnings structured plan. The rest, as they say, is history…
Through the arrival of Class of 2017, I started to interact with some of the girls who had similar interests to me. I have never been someone who randomly talks to strangers on the internet and for me it all felt very forced to begin with. I started encouraging others and received incredible support back. Instagram and Facebook comments to each other, turned into text messaging, phone calls and video chats all offering encouragement, support and motivation. We all decided that half way through the Class of 2017 program that we should all meet-up and solidify our internet connections even further. 👭
Fast forward to June 2017 in one of the most incredible cocktail bars in Manchester and we are all sat talking as if we had known each other for years. 🍹
Friendships truly confirmed for life! 💕
After successfully completing the Class of 2017 program, the opportunity arose for me to become an ambassador for the RWL brand. Now I am certainly not someone who makes decisions such as that lightly. Mainly because I have such a demanding lifestyle, but also because I never want to be someone who is seen to be putting time into representing something that is not aiming to support a greater good. I was also definitely not born to be a hard sales marketer and so I did not want to be putting myself in a position where I had to push sales. This is where the beauty of being a part of the RWL community as an ambassador comes in. ✨
There is absolutely no pressure to do anything but connect with people and discuss something that I feel extremely passionate about and thoroughly enjoy! I love representing a side of fitness which is not widely advertised in the mainstream media. I am not now, nor have ever been ‘body goals’, slim, toned or anything that remotely represents mainstream media perceptions of fitness. My body, in my opinion, is out of proportion with my short body, massive breasts and ever so slightly-longer-than-my-body legs. As an ambassador, I therefore take great joy in speaking to other ladies, who like myself, do not fit the mould. Discussing that, by involving themselves in an online army of optimism, support and a trail-blazing approach to managing physical fitness, mental well-being and confidence, will quite literally open up doors or opportunity and positivity in other areas of their lives really is the most satisfying thing. 💖
When women support each other, incredible things really do happen. I have grown from being the girl on her own in her younger years to not only now having my very best friends whom I call my urban family in my ‘real life’, but also my RWL family. I have made friends for life, we have laughed, danced, cried and supported each other through all sorts of times and shall continue to do so. By being a part of this community and seizing the RWL offer, I have grown my confidence, broken out of my own self-created boundaries and truly given diet culture the biggest middle finger I can. 💪🏼
The community that Results with Lucy nurtures continues to break stereotypes and promotes exercise as the most under-utilised antidepressant. Both nutrition and exercise are the powerful tools we can use to promote our own positive well-being and health.
